Thai Tradition

I love traditions.
And, I love friends. 
So, traditions with friends are just a double treat. 

When I moved away in the summer of 2005, I was fully aware I was leaving behind some amazing friends.... including this group of women including Sonja, Sarah, Annette, Jenny & Lisa.  I've known these women since around 1996 as our lives crossed paths in different ways including parties, running races, concerts, worship nights, small groups, walks, and more.  When I left in 2005 three of them were married and there were two children born and now all five of them are married and there are ten children and two more on the way!  

The first Christmas I came home, I set up a time to meet these friends for dinner and Sarah suggested a new Thai restaurant - Tum Rup Thai - in uptown. Well, we haven't turned back since.

Here's a few reasons I so enjoy these Tum Rup Thai nights with these friends:

  • Everyone tries to arrive on time but we all are usually a few minutes late.  What I really love about that is no one gets too anxious about it.
  • We all order the same dish every time -- why mess with a good thing?
  • It's such a great time to sit and connect with these busy women face to face.  Truly, since moving the internet has provided some great opportunities to keep up with pictures and stories of these friends and their families (I'm so thankful for this!) but there's nothing like sitting face to face with these women.
  • While it seems each time the evening flies by too quickly; I always leave feeling encouraged and looking forward to the next time we'll share a table at the intersection of Lake and Emerson in Minneapolis.

I love our tradition as well. I'm going to mix it up by being on time (yeah, right) and ordering something new (hmmm...we'll see!). Thanks for posting, Amy! So thankful for your friendship!

It is a fun tradition! I love knowing that I'll always get to see you when you are in town and catch up on your life in PA. I love the Thai tradition, too! It is funny that we always get the same thing. I may have been the last one to arrive last time. How fun to look through the photos. It is an honor to be a part of one of your posts! Love you!
