#YOTB in reivew


Just over a year ago I posted about the year of the bear and imagined what this year may hold asking the Lord to open my eyes to things unseen.  Well, 2013 did not disappoint. 

In April, while hiking in Shenandoah, Denise and I saw a bear!  It happened after taking a wrong turn on a hike... that wrong turn brought us a bear sighting.  It was a symbol of all the Lord had in store for us this year.

The other big news of #YOTB was starting grad school.  When 2013 started, I had no idea I would be starting my doctoral degree.  In March I decided to apply, in April I was accepted, in June I decided to start and in July it all began.  A whirlwind indeed, but there has been numerous reasons that have confirmed that 2013 was the perfect year for me to begin this journey.

This fall I discovered new things about myself.  It's true, at age 43 I'm really starting to understand more about my inner self.  (yep, I'm a late bloomer)

Travels in 2013 year included Florida (twice!), Idaho, Oregon, Minnesota, Milwaukee, Chicago, DC, NYC, Philly, Virginia Beach, South Dakota and California.

Professionally I was able to present at a conference in January, participate in a program review in February and co-lead at a day long seminar in October.  My time at Messiah has pushed me to be all I can be in the field of Student Affairs.  I'm so grateful for this institution.

Personally this year held so many things....
I took risks
shared many miles with good friends
learned new things about myself
celebrated my first nephew's one year birthday and welcomed a second nephew
I was rejected
I was pursued
said good-bye to friends who moved away
made choices to be healthier mentally and physically
spent time with friends from coast to coast (many I hadn't seen in years!)
was surprised by God's faithfulness
opened myself up to new ideas
experienced both failure and success
was challenged at the Justice conference
persisted with photo-a-day
and so so so much more...

Now as I look toward 2014 (with full awareness that big changes are ahead), I celebrate how thus far the Lord has been with me.  I look forward to seeing what is to come...
