#YOTB

A few friends and I have declared 2013 to be the "Year of the Bear".  What does that mean?  Well, let me start by giving you a little bit of history.  A couple of years ago my friends Marie, Carla, Denise and I took a trip to Alaska.  While we were there we had many a conversation about Denise's hope to see a bear.  To be honest, I was completely supportive of seeing a bear from the safety of our car, you know, catching a glimpse of a cute cuddly bear climbing a tree by the side of the road or something.  What I was not a fan of was seeing a grizzly bear about 10 feet in front of us while we were on a hike; I blame all the true-life horror stories I've read about bear attacks over the years.  Well (spoiler alert) even in the land of polar, black, brown and grizzly bears we saw nary a one.  We did, however, take quite a few photos of ourselves posing as bears, a practice which has continued once we returned to the lower 48.

 
Fast-forward two and a half years and Denise still hasn't seen a bear.  This fall I stumbled across this awesome mug at Starbucks and decided to buy one for her birthday and, well, one thing led to another and now the four of us have are owners of these mugs and we've decided that 2013 will be the Year of the Bear.  

So, what does it mean?  We decided #YOTB would mean:
The year when things we've believed in and that we know exist will appear.  
 How hopeful and exciting is that?


Then, on the last Sunday of 2012, I was at the church where I spent the first 18 years of my life
and we sang the old worship song "Hosanna in the Highest" and these words struck me:
And, now this is has become my prayer for 2013.  
Lord, heal my heart and make it clean.  Open up my eyes to things unseen.  
Show me how to love like you have loved me.  Break my heart for what breaks yours.  
Everything I am for your kingdoms cause as I walk from earth into eternity. 

I'm anxious to see what this year ahead will hold.  How things I've been longing to see will appear.  And, how the Lord will open my eyes to things unseen... things that break his heart, that need love the way he's loved me, and more.  And other adventures yet to be written...

So, that's the meaning of #YOTB.  What might #YOTB mean to you?
