like cold water to a weary soul

Like cold water to a weary soul
is good news from a distant land.

I'm not overly weary, but I'm not feeling very energized either. But, that changed with a phone call from a friend. My long-distance friend and I have played phonetag for a couple of months and seemed to just keep missing each other. Tonight when I saw her name show up on my phone I had fleeting thoughts of "oh, I want to talk to her but I'm so tired tonight... maybe I'll let it go to voicemail and call her back... or maybe I should answer it (we have been playing phonetags for months!?". I did answer and I'm so glad I did.

On the other end of the phone was a dear friend telling me some exciting news. Some specific answers to prayers she and I had prayed for her often over the past few years. These answers seemed to come out of the blue for her and I sure wasn't expecting this news from her today. Maybe that's why it gave me so much joy!

This good news form a distant land did indeed feel like cold water to my weary soul.

And, while answers to many prayers continue to go unanswered for my journey, hearing these answers for my friend filled me with joy and hope. How good it is to rejoice with those who rejoice (Romans 12).

May this encourage you tonight too.
