day six

Day Six:  A photo makes you laugh

I'll admit it -- this picture was totally staged.  But, it still makes me laugh.  This is new years eve 2003 I believe.  I was in California visiting my brother and attending a party he and his friends were throwing that included dancing.  Why the sad face with the party hat?  During this season of life I was working at a college with policies that included "no dancing" (among other things) and as an employee those policies applied to me as well.  So, while others enjoyed the dancing, I sat and watched.  It wasn't nearly as sad as it looks, but there was a little disappointment on my part.

Today this photo not only made me laugh but caused me to think about what it means to live in community and sacrifice things that may not be your own choice... it's a conversation I have over and over again for work... but great to be reminded that intentional communities are something that have been a part of my life for quite a few years.

New Years Eve 2010 will find me at the opposite side of the country -- I'll be in Times Square for the ball drop!  And, just maybe there will be dancing.
