I love the city of brotherly love

I only spent one year living in Philadelphia but those 365 days were enough to capture my heart. This weekend included a visit to the cousins and to the city. As Angie and I walked through the city on the spring-like January Saturday I took time to soak in the goodness the city had to offer: the energy of the people walking on the city streets, the site of the Liberty Bell, shopping in eclectic independent shops, famous old architecture blending into modern buildings, satisfying an ice cream craving, the beauty of a mural on an old brick wall, and diversity as far as my eye can see. I stopped for a moment and tried to remember the days I depended on public transportation and when I was connected to a growing church and when I was challenged by new thoughts each and every day.


This morning Kelly and I went to Liberti Fairmont-- the church I attended while I lived in Philly and where Kelly still attends. As we drove the route my feet used to walk and I saw the abandonded buildings and trash filled streeets -- I said outloud "I love this city". It may have been the lovely, touristy part of the city that first caught my eye, but this is the part of the city that caused me to truly fall in love. Why? I'm not quite sure. But, I know that I will always see life differently because of this city and because of the beautiful people I met and the countless Philadelphians I didn't have the opportunity to meet.

I only spent a week in that city, but I would say that I like that city, too!
